5 things I want to do differently in 2015

60_different2015#1: Read more.

Every time January rolls around I try to avoid making New Years resolutions and instead incorporate small changes in my life that will make me feel healthier and happier with myself. You know, the usual: get more sleep, eat more of the food that’s good for me and less of the bad, keep up with the daily exercise, keep in touch with old friends and family, see more of the world, stay positive, etc etc.

BUT, there were a couple things I wanted to do differently this year so I think I have to make an exception to my “No New Years Resolutions” rule.

This year I want to:

#1: Read more. A LOT more.
Before I started working full time I read a lot. And I don’t mean textbooks or blogs (ha), I read all kinds of books on science, music, history, and fiction too. Nowadays life is a lot more hectic and I am happy to veg out and watch Netflix or play videogames when I have free time. But not any more. I’ve made a goal to read 100 books in 2015. A little crazy? Perhaps. I figured I’d aim high and see where I’m at in six months and adjust the total from there.

#2: Drink more water.
Sad but true, I don’t drink nearly as much water as I should. Especially when it’s cold out (like this week where it’s been -20 something every day. Bleh). But we all know water is good for you. It keeps you from over eating, your skin clear, and you looking healthy and shiny and all that good stuff. I suppose making multiple trips to the bathroom each day will also keep me from sitting around for too long — another bonus.

#3: Learn to play another instrument.
Much of my childhood was spent practising the piano, so I’ve got that one covered. This year I want to learn how to play the guitar. There are tons of apps out there that you can use to learn scales and chords and songs and I intend to try them all until I can correctly play Wonderwall from start to finish (just kidding, but not really). I don’t have a guitar yet, but my little brother has an old one he’s not using anymore so I’ve decided it’s mine now. All I need to do is take it from him ask him nicely. >:D

#4: $$$$$
Save more money, spend less — it’s essentially the same, ya? Besides what I’ve put away for my upcoming trip, I want to save for one more before the year is over. That, and my future, of course. So I need to cut back on the shoes/clothes/games/going out… which will be tough because I really like all of those things! This month I’ve been documenting my expenses. Next month I’ll have the difficult task of determining which of those things will get the chop. Hopefully not all of them. Hopefully not the shoes… *sadface*

#5: Blog more.
Duh! This one is a given for any blogger, no? I will have lots to write about while I’m traveling this month so hopefully by the time I come home it will be something that I can keep at more consistently than I have in the past.

Now I’m off to pack for this trip, download some books to read on the plane, chug a glass of water or two (PS does anyone know if you ever get used to all that water we’re supposed to drink each day?), and get on with finishing Book Number One.
