FIRST OF ALL — let me apologize for the long absence!! I’ve been doing a bit (okay a lot) of extra work in my spare time to offset the cost of some expensive home renovations (yuck). Thankfully that project is almost over now and soon I can get back to blogging consistently again. That being said, let us now return to our regularly scheduled programming….
So where did I last leave off? Oh right, we’re still in Marrakech.
Yet another neat tourist spot in Marrakech is Le Jardin Majorelle — a twelve-acre botanical garden designed by French artist Jacques Majorelle that was at one time owned by Yves Saint-Laurent. It’s also the perfect place to go on a hot day thanks to the cool, cool shade you can find under the leaves of the many trees inside. For that reason it’s usually quite busy here.
You start by a large fountain and from there can choose from a few paths to follow. Some paths will take you past rows of various exotic plants, through a bamboo forest, by tranquil fountains and lotus ponds, brightly coloured pots, and past a building painted in a vivid blue named after the garden’s designer, Majorelle.
There’s also a path that will lead you to a small memorial for Yves Saint-Laurent — where fashionable tourists can sit down and shed a couple silent tears or contemplate upon their fancy YSL bags, or shoes, or whatever… or for the truly respectful, take a picture with your loud obnoxious friends while you wave around a giant phablet on the end of your selfie stick with no regard for anyone else in the vicinity. Ugh.
ANYWAY. Don’t let annoying tourists deter you from checking out the gardens if you’re in Marrakech!
