Sunday updates

80_mothersDayUpdateHello there! It’s been a while, I know. I just wanted to post a quick update to say Happy Mother’s Day to the best Mom in the world. No really. She’s put up with me for my entire life, as well as my little sister and brother. I know that can’t have been easy, we were (are?) weird kids/adults/human beings.

We did the family brunch thing yesterday because we waited until the last minute to make a reservation at the place we normally go to on Mother’s Day, and it was totally booked. That’s typical of my family though. Always procrastinating! But it was a beautiful day, so it worked out well. Today it’s all rainy and gross and we’re stuck indoors and all I can think about is how stupid the weather is in this country.

Soon I will have to start thinking about packing for this trip though — I leave on Friday and I am beyond excited. And maybe just a little bit nervous. Unlike my last trip to South America, where I knew what to expect and I was staying with people I knew for most of it, I’ve never been to Morocco, and neither has my friend so it’s all new to me! Google has been pretty helpful, but TripAdvisor reviews only go so far. All I know is Morocco is a very conservative Muslim country so I’ll need to bring long skirts and dresses, long sleeve t-shirts and a scarf to wear over my head when we go to check out the more religious sights… not to mention the fact that I’m a woman and will probably be treated differently than my male friend who is going with me due to the cultural differences regarding gender equality there.

And then there is Spain where I’m sure I won’t want to wear all the long, conservative things I would have in Morocco. When the weather is warm I like to frolick around in shorts and tank tops and enjoy being outsite in the sun, because there’s so little time to do it in my own country! So much fretting is happening about this packing situation, maybe unnecessarily, haha. But I only have so much room in my backpack! (First world problems, amirite?)

Have you ever been on a trip where you needed to bring a bunch of different things? Maybe for different climates/purposes? I posed this question to my family today and they joked that I should pack for Morocco and just buy clothes in Spain. That’s almost tempting, if it wasn’t for the whole trying to save money thing. If you have any tips, please share!

Anyway. Happy Mother’s Day to all the first ladies out there, and happy Sunday to the rest of you! <3
